WYD in Rio was one of the best experiences of my life and being in the presence of the Pope was simply amazing. I met some wonderful people from all over the world that I'm still talking to now.

World Youth Day 2013
The pilgrimage is split in to two halves. The first part, for many years, was called 'Days in the Diocese' where pilgrims received a warm welcome and flavour of different regions of the host country. This year, for the first time, WYD began with 'Mission Week'. For our Mission Week we travelled to Petropolis to work with the Christian Live Movement (MVC). With them, we worked to build a garden, paint the fence of a parish church and play with all the children of the local village.
The second part of the pilgrimage was in Rio de Janeiro. Each morning leading up to World Youth Day itself was spent in catechesis. Then in the afternoon and evenings we attended the papal liturgies. The night before WYD together with millions of other pilgrims, we spent the night on Copacabana Beach in prayer with the Pope. After the main Mass of WYD, on Sunday morning, we played in the ocean, did a little sight seeing and rested before heading back to England filled with many memories and blessings from an unforgettable experience.
One of the most moving moments for me was at the Vigil with Pope Francis. His words to us imploring us to go back to our homes and countries to 'make disciples of all the nations' showed me that God trusts us with this mission, who am I to refuse?
